My old and faithful cat didn't come back home after the last storm, and Muriel sent me a raven cawing at the front door this afternoon with this message.
When this raven spirit animal comes cawing loudly into my life, it marks that a moment of pause and serious consideration is in order concerning the incoming message.
Being black as midnight, it's not surprising to discover that the ravens' symbolism and meaning in many cultures is connected with death and the underworld. At first, this message may seem dire, but the representation of this death concept isn't just literal. So, I might be wondering what this spirit raven symbolizes besides death, darkness and decay?
I need to understand that spirit ravens have a deeper spiritual meaning to them. On the surface, ravens' attraction to carrion can make this birds' symbolism seem morbid, but things aren't always as simple as they appear. Instead of interpreting this message as a dire symbol of doom, Muriel wants me to look at the broader significance of this birds' meaning.
This ravens' appearance is an omen that something is about to transform my life. Whether it be positive or negative, total transformation is usually dramatic. With that said, the raven spirit can help guide them safely through the fray by consuming the soul of the creature, which cleanses it in the process. Perhaps there is something old and unhealthy that needs to be purged? raven is a great helpmate for that, and acts as an excellent teacher, guide and partner for magical studies and other efforts just like my familiar cat did.
Muriel says that my ability to reverse my associations with death from something to be feared to a recognition of a powerful rite of passage which completes a circle of life, death and rebirth, is also part of this raven spirits' message, as it's here to help me change my perspective.
